An article posted on TechCrunch today talks about the expansion of user-generated content through a program done by CBS. It’s a program called Eyemobile for iPhone and it allows users to submit video and photo content to CBS’s citizen journalism site, CBSeyemobile.com. Users can view other’s photos and comment on the uploads as well. This is yet another expansion of citizen journalism and provides a voice for users to further traditional news sites.

I feel like I read about Eyemobile or something similar recently. I linked to the TechCrunch article because although I do not own an iPhone, I was under the impression that they are not capable of recording native video, but I could be wrong. Regardless, submission of citizen journalism is a great idea for all parties. With our cell phone capabilities, almost everyone is an instant reporter, and we are often on the scene long before any news crews. The Virginia Tech massacre is a tragic, but good example of this concept. I remember seeing cell phone videos on the internet when the news crews were just spooling the same clips of the aftermath over and over. With the popularization of citizen journalism, we all benefit.

The idea behind this is cool. I have an iPhone and they cannot record video but if they were able to come up with an application where I could submit videos and therefore be a citizen journalist I would definitely participate.
I like the idea of citizen journalism being capable through mobile phones.
